Hole Description:

This genuine side of beef hole comes with its own share of laughs for the wild Slicers of the ball.  That is because just right of the massive fairway bunker right there is cow pen that has more than its share of cows and manure awaiting a wild slice.  The pen is out of bounds, but you do stand a good chance of finding an angry cow awaiting you if you stray that far from the fairway.   This hole could also be named the Bermuda Heather Triangle as any ball struck far left is generally impossible to find even if you know the exact line it was on off the tee.  A very fair hole by most golfing standards as a good drive leaves you with a very short approach shot.

Tee Shot Tips:

It’s a blind tee shot for the most part, except you can see the looming bunker right. There is no trouble on the left edge of the fairway and thus, it can be a good route. However, the best approach angle coming in is from the right side or center of the fairway.   So, let your round dictate how aggressive you want to be on this hole.

Landing Zone Tips:

Know that the heather left is a sure penalty stroke and the cow pasture far right is out of bounds.   With that in mind, 5 yards left of center is a great line unless you hit the ball 320 yards off the blue tees, then you might reach the bunker in front of the green.  Otherwise, its wide open from the bunker right to the heather left.

Approach Shot Tips:

Now comes the real fun on this hole.  I would describe this green as being somewhat like a “Tent”.   It slopes up to the middle and then slopes slightly downhill just past center.  It has an obvious hog on the left center and a not so obvious hard texture.  So, expect it to roll 10 feet further than you expect on the front half and expect to be off the back if you get too aggressive coming in too far past the center to back.   Worse yet, behind the green is a drop off that looms and throws most long shots into deep heather.  So, if the pin is up front, try to hit the front fringe.  If it is in the back, try to hit the center ridge and roll it to the back or come in very high and soft.

Putting Tips:

This green is moderate going uphill and fast coming downhill.   The breaks are just about what you expect they would be except coming down the hog left.  Surprisingly, you can get a put down the hog face that is fairly straight.  So, take extra time looking at which slope is truly going to impact the putt the most.
