Hole Description:

Hole three at Calderone is a beautiful par four golf hole.  The left of the fairway is lined with heather and the green is genuine work of art.  You can see from the aerial shots of this green that it is long.  You can play 3 different iron shots into the green just based on the pin location.    This long Green is full of contours and is set at an angle of roughly 27 degrees to the right from front to back.  This angle often turns the perfect straight shot into a miss left and a tough downhill chip coming back.  Miss it right and you are in a tough bunker with high faces that make recovery tough.

Tee Shot Tips:

If you hug the heather left, the ball feeds down a left to right slope and gives you a better angle coming into the green.    Being in the heather left is not all that bad as it is thinner than in other parts of the course.  Your best line is 8 yards right of a small tree you will see on the edge of the Heather left.

Landing Zone Tips:

The fairway kicks hard right and also has two levels to contend with.  An extreme right and long shot off the tee will most likely find one of several traps waiting on the right side of the fairway.  Any shot from the right side of the fairway is more difficult as you end up having to fly the bunkers on the right side of the green.  So, for the best shot at birdie, stay as far left as you can without pulling it into the heather.

Approach Shot Tips:

If the pin is up, your best birdie putt is left of center or straight below the hole.
If the pin is in the middle you must account for the angle of the green heading off to the right and try to be as close to the center as possible.  Being left leaves you with a lightening fast downhill putt.   Being right of center in the middle has a few tough contours to contend with.  Center of Center is best.  In the back you be just about anywhere and have decent putt.  However, you don’t want to be long as the rough around this green is thick and tough to come back out of as the green is fast.

Putting Tips:

Know if you are in a scoring position or a survival position on this green.  The left of center front is a birdie zone as is the center of the center.   The back is tough to reach for most players as the distance on your approach is tough to judge.  Expect at least 4 inches of break when it looks straight, and know you can easily putt off the green and into the bunker if you are left of the center on top of the hog.  That being said, it is actually one of the most fair greens you will encounter all day and provides you with a real shot at birdie.
